4. Atlanta BeltLine Inman Park MARTA Station

There is a free, narrated bus tour of the Atlanta BeltLine on Friday and Saturday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The tour includes an extensive history about how the BetLine came to be, offering details on the concept, project planning, implementation, and development. Not in to the idea of a bus ride? There are plenty of trails made available for walking and biking, too.

5. Fernbank Science Center 156 Heaton Park Drive

The Fernbank Science Center is run by the DeKalb cOunty School System. They created this museum and woodland center with the hope of encouraging a better understanding of science, technology, and nature. The center has a 9,000-square-foot exhibit hall, a 500-seat planetarium, an observatory, two electron microscopes, a library, a distance learning studio, science labs and a 65-acre forest. They have dinosaur bones for viewing, as well as live animals, and an Apollo space craft. While the planetarium will cost you a few bucks, most of the activities and exhibits at this center are totally free.

6. Castleberry Hill Art Stroll

Located in the old transportation hub of Atlanta, Castleberry Hill is a historic site that is nationally recognized. At this site, on the second Friday of every month, the town holds an “art stoll.” You can wander the area and sightsee, as local vendors and artists set up stands where you can view their work. It’s a fun way to learn about Atlanta’s culture, as well as get a little history in.

7. Chattahoochee River

If you are feeling adventurous, you should stop off at any one of the many spots along the Chattahoochee River. You can spend a day picnicking or dipping your feet in the water. IF you own a kayak or raft, you can ride along the river and rapids. The Chattahoochee is a legend in Georgia, one that runs right through Atlanta.
