Art Bikes Jax hosts Secret Jacksonville tour

On Sunday, August 7, Art Bikes Jax and author Bill Delaney are hosting an electric bike tour featuring stops from Bill's book Secret Jacksonville: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful and Obscure.

Writer Bill Delaney, co-owner of and Edible Northeast Florida Magazine, has spent years researching Jacksonville’s underknown and underrepresented stories. His book, Secret Jacksonville: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure, is dedicated to profiling the forgotten, mysterious and just plain interesting spots across Jacksonville and the First Coast.

Now he’s teaming up with Art Bikes Jax for a unique new tour of spots featured in Secret Jacksonville. At 10 am Sunday, August 7, he’ll lead a guided tour running through Avondale, Riverside, Brooklyn, Durkeeville, Downtown Jacksonville and more of the historic neighborhoods of Jacksonville’s Urban Core, all using the company’s electric Art Bikes. On this tour, you’ll hear stories of the birthplace of the Allman Brothers Band, the home stadium of the Jacksonville Red Caps of the Negro Major Leagues, Jacksonville’s LGBTQ “Holy Ground,” the city’s most notorious haunted school and much more lying just off the beaten path.

Art Bikes Jax was founded by Ron Rothberg to provide an innovative new way for people to see the city. The Art Bikes are a fleet of twelve electric bikes – riders can choose to either pedal or let the bike’s motor do the work – each decorated by a local artist. Rothberg offers a variety of tours and excursions that bring riders to see the city’s beautiful public art and explore historic neighborhoods. For more info, visit the Art Bikes website.

The Art Bikes are suitable for anyone who can ride a bike. All riders must pass a brief safety check before heading out. Tours begin and end at Open Road Cycles in Avondale. Signed copies of Secret Jacksonville are available on the tour. You can also order online at
