City of the Dead: Père Lachaise Cemetery
Dating back to 1804, Père Lachaise Cemetery is the largest cemetery in Paris, France and the most visited cemetery in the world with more than 3.5 million visitors annually.

Established by Napoleon, the cemetery was designed by prominent 18th century French architect Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart and is designed to squeeze a number of bodies into a compact space. This is accomplished by combining the remains of multiple deceased family members into the same graves. 110 acres in size, the famed cemetery remains active and is home to more than one million interments. However to be buried here, one must die in or have lived in Paris. Those buried at Père Lachaise include Irish playwright Oscar Wilde, French cabaret singer Edith Piaf and Jim Morrison, lead vocalist of the rock band the Doors.
