Is Jacksonville in Brightline's future?

Could Brightline (Virgin Trains USA) be headed to Jacksonville? The existing and future plans for the nation's only modern privately operated intercity passenger rail service will be the focal point when the rail company's Vice President of Government Affairs, Bob O’Malley speaks next week. Here's a look at what's in store.

West Palm Beach station

Currently building an extension into Orlando while also operating between Miami and West Palm Beach, the company recently announced plans to extend to Tampa and to construct a separate line altogether between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. In addition, this week it delayed plans for a $538 million IPO, stating a number of alternative financing sources had become available, allowing it to keep the company private while meeting growth strategies.

On Thursday, February 28, the Jax Chamber will host an event to learn about the express intercity rail system developed and operated by All Aboard Florida, a subsidiary of Florida East Coast Industries and Virgin Group.

The keynote speaker will be Brightline’s Vice President of Government Affairs, Bob O’Malley. O’Malley’s primary focus is directing government affairs and community outreach for Brightline’s Orlando and Tampa expansion efforts. He recently joined the company after serving 10 years as the regional vice president of government affairs for CSX Transportation.
