After purchasing the Plank-Road Brewery for a sum of $8,000, Frederick Miller began a beer dynasty in Milwaukee beginning in 1855 as the Miller Brewing Company. In 1857 Miller would open a grandiose beer hall along Milwaukee’s East Water Street that was described as serving the ‘best lagers in the world’ according to newspaper accounts. More than a century later, MillerCoors products are still enjoyed on warm summer days in the beachside Beer Garden at South Shore Terrace at the Miller 1855 Bar. This beer garden also features a cedar pergola, gas fire pits and two stages where live music is enjoyed every Wednesday night.
