Florida's Higher-Speed Rail TOD Takes Shape

Florida will soon feature one of the most advanced passenger rail systems in the United States. While the concept of higher-speed passenger rail in Florida has made national headlines, the fact that AAF is also developing dynamic mobility-centric urban centers of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) around its stations is a noteworthy topic in its own right.

**Fort Lauderdale Station**

In Fort Lauderdale, AAF’s station will cover 60,000-square-feet with a multi-story lobby spanning an elevated passenger lounge area and parking facilities. It will directly connect to the Sun Trolley, Broward County Transit and future streetcar and commuter rail lines. It’s expected to create more than $333 million in economic impact for Broward County through 2021.

Fort Lauderdale Station site plan

On the 10-acres surrounding the station, AAF is working with the City of Fort Lauderdale for the potential buildout for as much as two million square feet of transit-oriented development. The first phase could include a tower with either 250 multifamily residential units or 150,000-square-feet of offices.
